Risk & Issue Management

This course introduces learners to the fundamental concepts, tools, and practices of project risk and issue management. It focuses on identifying, analyzing, prioritizing, and responding to risks and issues that can impact project objectives related to scope, schedule, cost, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Learners explore proactive risk management approaches, including risk identification techniques, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, risk response planning, and ongoing risk monitoring and control. The course also distinguishes between risks and issues and emphasizes the importance of early detection, escalation, and resolution. Through case studies, practical exercises, and real-world project scenarios, learners develop the skills needed to anticipate uncertainty and manage problems effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understand Risk and Issue Management Fundamentals – Explain the purpose and importance of risk and issue management in projects, and distinguish clearly between project risks and project issues.
• Identify and Analyze Project Risks – Apply appropriate techniques to identify project risks and perform qualitative and introductory quantitative risk analysis to assess likelihood, impact, and priority.
• Develop and Implement Risk and Issue Responses – Select and apply suitable risk response strategies and issue resolution approaches to minimize negative impacts and support project objectives.
• Monitor, Control, and Communicate Risks and Issues – Use risk registers, issue logs, and reporting mechanisms to monitor risks and issues, communicate status to stakeholders, and support informed project decision-making.
